Six Frames

I’ve just finished my work at the library, when I saw an interesting book with a title “Six Frames”. Curiosly, I checked page by page to ensure I could get good values from that book. I’ve been interested on the font size, which is big enough for my eyes and won’t make myself sleepy to read it. It is also tough, coz I just have an half hour to finish this book or I won’t ever see it again.

Six Frames is about six different frames to assess information in this accessible information era. You will not know which one is the best one for you unless you do assess the information and choose the good one for you. It is understandable that we are attracted to unusual thing, since it can catch our attention or mind easily. However, we have limitation to digest the information, we probably will end up to skip the most valuable information, and in the same time, we usually get rubbish. The role of six different frames is to help you to get the most valuable information by applying different six frames or technique.

There are six different frames, according to De Bono. Firstly, is the triangle, with three sides and one top point. The triangle represents the question that need to be raised in order to understand something. WHAT is the top of the triangle, WHY and WHERE are the two below points. Those three questions can be represent these statements. What is the purpose of our info search/scan? Why do we need this information? Where should we look for this info?

Secondly, is the circle frame. A circle represents the target that need to be achieved straightforward, like a target of shooting. It means, the accuracy of the information is important when we are looking for it. Like a circle target, we need to focus on it and seek how accurate we could hit it.

Thirdly, is the view frame. A view frame has four corners, which stay in balance. That means, for information that we are trying to get, we need to look at the information in different ways. Being balanced and seek for the alternative views for each point is the main concept of view frame.

Fourthly, is the heart frame. This symbol shows that we can direct our attention to matters of our interest. If we do interested in the information, it is likely we will pay more attention to it and get better information. In this section, de Bono highlighted the importance of note taking to jot down an interesting thing from any information. If we do take note of that important information, not a mental note, then we will gain more information. An ability to transform the information into something interesting when there are not quite obviously presented is a part of heart frame area. The ability of reading between the lines can be very advantageous since we can get a deep meaning from any information.

Fifthly, is the diamond frame. A diamond is an invaluable matter. This frame shows the ability to overview the value of information. These attitudes, like interest, confirmation, disagreement and opportunity can be drawn clearly from this frame.

Finally, is the slab frame. Slab represents the outcome and conclusion from all pieces of information.

I guess, we still in the stage of asking the reason without wanting to go further to assess the information using all the rest frames. Each frame has its interpretation in handling information. Despite the conventional approach, six frames can help us to process information for ourself systematically.

In conclusion, the concept of six frames to screen all accessible information nowadays can enrich our search for the questions that need answers in our life.
